The VRCities Community
Builders Center (VRCities CBC) private site or intranet is a resource
and action-oriented sub-portal established to enable community organizations
to benefit from VRCities' Social Integration PlatformTM.
VRCities is offering
use of the Community Builders Center to community organizations.
In addition, VRCities,
in cooperation with WeTheWorld.org, is establishing a donation program
for not-for-profit organizations. Participating community organizations
will receive a percentage of sales generated by the VRCities Mall, planned
to be one of the largest online malls on the Internet. Details about the
donation program are available inside the VRCities CBC.
Our
Fundamental Assumption:
Humanity has
reached a level of development, including information and communications
technologies, where there are no justifiable reasons that prevent
the achievement of social and economic prosperity for all human
beings. The successful achievement of prosperity for all requires
that we integrate and apply the knowledge that we possess about
the key factors that affect and determine human behavior.
There also has to be a minimum number of people who ACT
in unison to achieve the general prosperity that is now
within reach. |
The VRCities Community
Building model combines elements of a knowledge base that is not generally
known, nor wel-understood:
- Research
by Ruth Benedict on synergetic communities--the best, fundamental
measure of community well-being,
- Research
by David Birch on job generation and rapid small business growth--
the fastest most effective way to create economic prosperity,
- Work
by Stafford Beer on organizational control systems--application of
the syntegration model to community building, and
- Research
by a team led by the Harvard Business School and McKinsey--the only
long-term, factual database that synthesizes knowledge on high performance
management and sustained organizational success.
The VRCities model
incorporates the following logic:
- Strong communities
and vigorous enterprise create prosperity.
- Both strong communities
and successful commerce require good relationships.
- Individuals are
at all intersections of community and enterprise results. Therefore,
successful interventions must be targeted at individual behaviors.
- History shows
that large and/or entrenched problems require appropriate organization
for interventions to be effective--this is a cybernetic law.
- Successful organization
involves activities at different levels of functioning and corresponding
intensities.
- The results we
get all all levels of functioning depend on environment, the standards
and principles we adopt, and the actions we take to obtain those results.
- Assuming a context
of good will, what gets measured gets done, what gets measured and
watched gets done better.
- Information and
communications technologies can foster the formation of strong virtual
communities to support physical communities.
- The virtual communities
can parallel, shadow and connect with offline human organizations
and communities to create better results than can be achieved without
virtual interaction.
The VRCities Community
Building programs enable community organizations to establish an online-offline
interface resulting in more effective communications and better relationships
among community members and their social environment.
This is a large task
and we are a small, growing group. We invite you to join with us.
There is no cost to
access the VRCities Community Building Center, and there only two steps:
- Sign up as a
VRCities Stakeholder and
- Receive the username/password
information to enter the VRCities CBC.
